What is the 5 Step Laundry System?
It is a complete wash chemistry for commercial and institutional laundries. Five products run in order on every load: break, wash, bleach, sour, and soften. Island Chem installs the system on site as five dispensing containers fed by an included calibrated dosing system.
Which products make up the five steps?
Chem Power is the break, Chem Wash is the wash, XL-83 is the bleach, Chem Sour is the sour, and Chem Soft is the softener. Each product handles one stage of the wash.

What does a laundry break do?
The break raises the alkalinity of the wash so soil lifts and disperses before the main detergent works. It is the step that loosens the heavy soil a detergent alone leaves behind.
What does a laundry sour do?
The sour neutralizes the alkalinity left from washing and bleaching so finished linen comes out at the correct pH. That protects fabric, keeps whites bright, and leaves linen comfortable against skin.
Is XL-83 safe for coloured linen?
No. XL-83 is a heavy duty industrial bleach for whites only. For colours, Island Chem supplies Oxy Chem, an oxygenated bleach that is safe for all colours.
Is the chemistry phosphate free?
Yes. The wash chemistry is phosphate free, which is gentler on fabric, staff, and waste water while still delivering institutional results.
